"Charlie's great strength has earned him [much respect]. He hit .250 in 60 games for the Yankees in 1949, his 10th year in their uniform. Signed by the Tigers as a free agent after the close of the season, Charlie has never fully recovered from a serious back operation.
Charlie graduated from the University of Maryland with a B.S. degree. He was up to the Yankees after two years in the minors. He spent a year in military service."
-1950 Bowman No. 211
